Duke has been with our family for three weeks now and is settling into our routine nicely.  Boy, was his first foster mom absolutely correct when she said, “Duke knows no stranger,” as this boy loves everyone!  Even though we have no young children, Duke has made fast friends with our neighbor kids.  Last week I went out to our back yard to check what the dogs were up to and found Duke snuggled up to our chain link fence, as close as he possibly could get, with the little two year old girl from next door with her hand through the fence petting him.  What a sweet sight, and me with NO CAMERA!  This just explains what an affectionate boy Duke really is.  Normally when he is outside, he is on the move constantly.   It was very apparent that he had to stop for a moment when he saw the opportunity for someone to give him a few belly rubs.

Duke makes our family laugh at his antics, but as I have said before he loves to be snuggled.  Through his bath and brushing he has been a perfect gentleman and we have found that he really loves to be brushed.  He will stay to be brushed as long as you want to do it.  I did add a couple more pictures of this boy to show his cute freckled nose!  The other is a picture of him snuggled up to his new sister Rainy.  We told you he snuggles up to just about anyone – even if it’s his sister.

The family that gives Duke a forever home will really be getting a special boy.  If you would like a companion that will give you attention 100% of the time, Duke is the boy for you!

Duke has been heartworm tested and on preventative, neutered, up to date on shots, micro chipped, and on flea/tick preventative.  He is being fostered in Grand Rapids, MI.

Duke is at a new foster home, due to no fault of his own – just logistics.  We picked Duke up Friday morning and in just a couple of days he has blended right in with our family, including his BC sister Rainy and big collie brother Spartan.  He is such a lovable boy.  In the house he is such a gentleman.  He absolutely loves men – his first night here he crawled right up into my husband’s lap for snuggling, but he is just as content laying in this dog bed, or just laying at your feet – he just wants to be where his “person” is.  My husband calls him his shadow since wherever he goes, Duke is sure to follow.

Outside Duke is a busy boy, aware of every noise around him.  We are working with Duke walking on a leash and he is doing fairly well.  He wants to pull some so we are will work with him to walk by our side.  His foster home is in a sub-division so there are a lot of new sounds and people to figure out.  His recall is great and he goes right in his crate when asked.  Duke eats and sleeps in his crate.  He also stays in there when we have to step out for a bit.  We will continue to up date about Duke’s progress as we all get to know each other more.

DUKE’S turn – My foster mom wanted me to tell a little bit more about myself.  But first of all, I need to THANK my previous foster parents for all their love and guidance to help me learn to be a good boy in the house.  Boy – am I loving this inside the house living!  I still like to be outside and I will need a fence to help keep me safe, but going inside the house with my foster family is great.  I love squeaky toys, good treats-- or any kind of treats for that matter-- and lots of loving, but I am not so good with cats.  If I do say so myself I am a real pretty boy; I have a deep red and white coat.  My new foster parents gave me a bath today and that felt so good I ran around the yard afterwards.  I got to meet my foster parent’s niece and nephew today and they played ball with me in the back yard – that was so much fun I brought the ball right back to them so they could throw it again.  I hope I can play with them again soon.  My new foster mom says I have to be patientwhile I wait for my new forever home, but I know someone has to be looking for a lovable companion boy.   XOXO Duke

Hi!  My name is Duke.  I am a six year old, red and white border collie and I’m ready for my forever home!.

I have been with my Foster Parents for just a little over 4 months and have been loving it every day.
I am their first foster and sure want to thank them for all their help, but frankly, I'm looking for a place where I can hang up my bone at the end of the day.

I went into rescue because my previous owners could no longer keep me.   Previously, I did not spend much time in the house, so I have had to learn a lot of manners (at which, if I do say so myself, I have come a long way ;-).   I am house broken, crate trained, enjoy rides in cars, long walks in the park, a good swim now and then, and best of all, I love my squeaky toys (if you have not watched my video, you should, it will explain everything).   I listen pretty well - can sit, stay, give paw and continue to work on down.   I get along well with everyone (people and dogs) and just want to be loved.

I still have one quirk that I am working on and that is the sound of a motorcycle (or a loud car) causes me to get wound up and do circles.  My foster parents and I are working on this with positive reinforcement and treats. (Oh, by the way, did I mention that I am very food motivated?)

I am microchipped, current on shots and heart worm negative. If you think you might be interested, please send in an application to adopt me.  Time is a-wasting!

Thank you for considering me and supporting all of us rescue dogs.

Sincerely,
Duke "I want a forever home" Foster

New Video of Duke!

Duke is a very sweet and loving boy and he gets along with everyone.  He loves to curl up on a doggy bed at the end of a long day.  We have been taking him for walks in the evening, which he enjoys very much.  When we started, he did not really know about walking on a leash.  Although, he still has a tendency to pull, he is improving with every walk.  He is very eager to please and looking for his forever home.

Duke took a Memorial Day Weekend trip with us to Rockbridge, MO with our 2 other BCs.  He did great in the car over the four-hour drive.  We found out that he loves to swim and will retrieve sticks for you.  He is very calm, knows no strangers and loves to be petted by everyone.

He walks well on lead.  Will sit, stay and give you a paw.  He loves to chew on his nyla bone and kong.  He is very treat motivated, a quick learner and wants to please.  He loves to follow you and help you with what ever you are doing.  He is a great companion dog.

May 12

Today is Duke’s 6th birthday.  He is now been with us for almost 3 weeks and has easily adjusted to our family life.  He is very affectionate and loves the opportunity to get his ears and belly rubbed.  Duke loves to play.  His new favorite toy is a squeaky ball.  He gets along well with everyone he has met, both 2 and 4 legged.  He rides well in the car.

Duke is certainly enjoying inside house living.  He has never tried to mark anything in the house.  He crates during the day and has now learned to sleep on his dog bed in our bedroom at night.  I would say his energy level is on the high side especially when outside.  When outside he needs work otherwise he will pace the fence.  We are working very hard on this with plenty of playing and work to tire him out at the end of the night.

He has been heartworm tested and on preventative, neutered, up to date on shots, micro chipped, and on flea/tick preventative.

Duke, our first foster, arrived out our house 2 nights ago.  In just 2 short days he has already shown how sweet he can be.  His owners moved and could not take him with them, and we’re so happy they brought Duke to Come Bye BC Rescue.

Duke will be 6 years old in May.  He was an outside dog, but after a quick bath his true beauty was easily seen.  He is very mellow and happy.  He will sit and give paw.  We are working on stay.  He will come when he is called.  He seems to be a quick learner and will crate without any issues.  He is very quiet, does not bark or make any noise.  Duke is very treat motivated!

We had our vet look him over while implanting the microchip and he was very laid back while being poked, prodded and needled….no big deal as far as he was concerned.

He gets along with our other 2 Border Collies.  He is still moving a little slow as he was just neutered.

Duke is being fostered just outside of St. Louis in House Springs, MO.  He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots and is on flea & tick prevention and heartworm preventative.
