10.01.09

Phoenix is a very sweet, affectionate, smart dog.  He loves to play with you and/or other dogs.  He loves to catch and return the ball and has learned to catch it “on the fly.”  Sometimes he likes to leap straight up in the air, about 4 feet and grab it.  This same ability also makes it possible for him to jump/climb a 4 foot fence in the backyard.  His new owner would have to watch that.

Phoenix responds well to adults and will warm up to strangers very quickly.  He is still a little put off by children, but with patience he could probably get over that.

When out in the yard, he is beautiful to watch as he runs fast and makes those quick turns while chasing and being chased by other dogs.  He knows when to back off with other dogs and is respectful when they want him to leave them alone.

He is fine with cats, as he seems to want nothing to do with them.

He loves his daily walk, sniffing and snooping, and looking around.  When encountering strangers on his walk, he moves toward them in greeting, but still responds better if the stranger is passive to his initial approach.

In the house, Phoenix is very trustworthy.  He doesn’t chew anything but his toys.  He has had no ‘accidents” in the house.  Come evening, he is perfectly content to chill out on the floor or on the couch next to you (if you ask.).  He is crate trained but could probably be left out in the house if you wanted..

He is a very good companion, following you in the yard or in the house, really just wanting to be near you.  He is so sweet, really likes to cuddle with you, and seems to really like being hugged.

We have just found out Phoenix is fearful of firecrackers and tends to bolt.

All Phoenix’s vet work is complete.  He is neutered, on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, has his rabies, DHLPP and bordatella.  He also has had a fecal and been wormed.  He is microchipped.

Phoenix is being fostered in St. Louis.  For more information on Phoenix please email Chris at comebyebcrescue@hotmail.com or to apply to adopt him go to http://www.comebyebcrescue.petfinder.org

 Phoenix 8.14.09

What a young charmer Phoenix is!  He is one of the best behaved dogs I have ever fostered.

He loves to play, play, play with other dogs and he plays very well and respectfully with them but he will settle in nicely when the day is done (or he is asked to).  Phoenix is curious about cats, but he will “leave it” when told.

He absolutely loves people, women more than men, once he gets to know them, and will lay on you/the couch for belly rubs forever….  I have not had an adult  visitor that he didn't respond well to.

Phoenix loves to play ball, loves to carry it around in the back yard, and he will now normally return it.  He is quite fast and coordinated!  His recall is getting much, much better.

Phoenix loves attention, but will quietly lay by you (and not pester) if you are working or doing something else.  He is really into the daily walk and gets all excited about that, but he would be classified as an active companion level bc, since he will need more than walks to keep him satisfied.

Phoenix is just under a year of age, and he is 1/2 Australian Shepherd and 1/2 Border Collie.

Phoenix is housetrained, crate trained and knows his basic commands.  He is still sort of in the puppy chewy stage, so we make sure we provide him with sturdy toys and monitor him in the house.

The charmer that he is, Phoenix will subtly try to manipulate people by standing on their feet or doing things without asked.  He will need an owner who has had experience with herding breeds, and who will continue to train him in a formal setting.

Phoenix is not suited for homes with small children, he is afraid of them as they mistreated him.  He also is initially afraid of strangers (and will sometimes bark and growl), although he will quickly seek pets from them if they approach him with kindness.  We are working on teaching him all people are good.

Phoenix 6.25.09

Phoenix is a handsome, affectionate young dog!  He is just under a year of age, and he is 1/2 Australian Shepherd and 1/2 Border Collie.  He has the smarts of both breeds, which can be good and not so good!

Phoenix is housetrained, crate trained and knows his basic commands.  He is friendly and loves to play (somewhat roughly) with other dogs.  He is fine with cats.  Phoenix loves attention, but will quietly lay by you (and not pester) if you are working or doing something else.  He would be classified as an active companion level bc, and he will need more than walks to satisfy him.

We are trying to interest Phoenix in playing ball, but he shows little interest other than to grab it and parade around with this “trophy”.  He loves to run (and climb), and is very agile, so maybe agility training is in his future.

The challenge with Phoenix will be that he subtly tries to dominate people and other dogs (although with dogs he is not sosubtle).  So he will need an owner who has had experience with herding breeds, and who will continue to train him in a formal setting.  His only really annoying habit is when he plays “keep away” and will not come although he knows better.  We are working on this, and we will win LOL!

Phoenix is not suited for homes with children, as they have mistreated him and he is afraid of them.  He also is initially afraid of strangers (and will bark and growl), although he will quickly seek pets from them if they approach him with patience and kindness.  We are working on teaching him that people can be trusted.

All Phoenix’s vet work is complete.  He is neutered, on heartworm and flea/tick preventative, has his rabies, DHLPP and bordatella.  He also has had a fecal and been wormed.  He is microchipped.

Phoenix is being fostered in southern IL about 80 miles east of St. Louis and 200 miles south of Chicago.  For more information on Phoenix please email Chris at comebyebcrescue@hotmail.com or for an online application for Phoenix go to our website www.comebyebcrescue.rescuegroups.org
