Hi folks, Casey here!    I just wanted to check whether anybody out there’s looking for a happy-go-lucky companion, ‘cause I’m ready for a family of my own!     I get along with pretty much every kind of critter (except squirrels—I chase the squirrels away every morning) and I miss having some kids to hang out with.    I don’t mind cats too much although personally I don’t think they’re any fun to play with—they just like to lay around and watch things—whereas I like to get up close to smell things and maybe bat them with  my paw.   Cats don’t like squeaky toys either, but I love ‘em!

My foster mom says I’m growing up, not so much a puppy any more, and it’s high time I went to school.  I already know to “wait” at the door and not run out, and I know “come, Casey” and I know sit (although I try to hold out for a treat before I show 'em my “sit”).   I’m pretty sure I could learn other fun stuff, if someone would show me.

I like to take a walk in the morning, to see what’s passed by in the night, but I nap most of the afternoon.   Then I like another walk, to stretch my legs and get ready for dinner.  My foster mom and dad have showed me a round thing called a “ball” and a flat thing called a “Frisbee” but I’m not sure why—maybe they thought I'd want to chase them, but I’m not too interested in that.   A couple of times I got to run free at a park with the other dogs who live here, though, and that was seriously fun.  I think I smelled a raccoon!   Anyway, I was sure tired after that, and I slept good!

So, whaddya think?    Got a spot in your family for a good dog like me?

Casey is a beautiful, healthy, spayed 4 year old female Border Collie/ rough collie (Lassie type) mix, medium energy, who is an affectionate and playful companion.  She has very good house manners and is completely housetrained.        Her previous roommate was a Siamese cat whom she got along well with.

Casey loves to be with people.  In addition to romping in the yard, she loves to lie near someone's feet, especially if she can get an ear scratch or belly rub in the bargain. She’s well-behaved in the house and has learned which are her toys and which are our shoes, and she’s happy with that as long as she has a squeaky to shred and a bone of her own.

She’s a great companion, meets new people happily but calmly, loves pets but isn’t pushy for affection.  She loves to play and is not at all bossy with other dogs.  She interacts well with children of all ages as well as adults.

She rides quietly in the car, although she doesn’t seem familiar with “going for a ride” and so may be cautious about hopping in, but once in she settles nicely for the ride.   She walks well on lead and has been fine a couple of times outside without a lead-—she walked along quietly, stayed nearby, and came to us when we called her.  Casey knows “sit” and “down,” and she knows to “wait” quietly if we have to go out and leave her in the house.

Casey is microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and on heartworm preventative.   She measures 21" to her shoulders and weighed 52lbs on 6/25/09 when she received her 3 yr rabies and parvo vaccinations.   She has been on a full regimen of heart worm and flea protection and has no known health problems.

Casey lost her previous home due to family illness and is currently being cared for in West Lafayette, IN.  She will require a securely fenced yard, at least until she learns her boundaries.   This friendly, happy girl will also need an obedience class since she doesn’t have any commands yet.  As willing and clever as she is, we think she’ll do well as a family dog as long as her people take the time to teach her what’s expected.

Casey has been heartworm tested and is on preventative, spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped and in season on flea/tick preventative.

Casey is being fostered in West Lafayette, IN.  Please email  Mary for more information or go to our website www.comebyebcrescue.rescuegroups.org for an online application to adopt Casey.
