27 August 2009

This little guy is a Border Collie through and through!  He has the herding moves, the attention, the crouch and the intense stare all in one little energetic bundle.  To top it all off he is a lover, so much so that we have nicknamed him Casanova.  He loves to sit on your lap and get his belly rubbed, and he is always coming up for attention and a word of praise along with a scratch behind the ear….as long as there aren’t any balls around.  If there is a ball, that is the only thing that he wants, and he wants you to throw it for him to catch.

He is almost 8 months old now and, while it is too early to tell what his energy level will be when he matures, we think he will be an active or performance level dog and he will enjoy every minute of it.  He is very smart, and can be a little stubborn at times so will need a home with BC experience and one that is prepared to do more than throw a few tennis balls every day.

He is a happy guy and really does enjoy attention but is not clingy.  He settles well in the house, as long as you just t expect him to be still for extended periods of time.  He enjoys roughhousing with the other dogs, ignores the cat and sleeps at your feet whereever you are sitting.  He loves to get up on the couch with you when invited.  I actually have to pick him up and put him on the couch, for a good belly rub.

Because he and his brother Zip (also available for adoption!) had parvovirus, they were quarantined for about a month.  He and Mick had parvovirus, but are completely recovered and are no longer contagious to other animals or human beings.

Both pups  need more people socialization because of it.  We have been working on that, but it will take more time and work for his new family.  He is not aggressive at all, he is simply shy with people.

He and Zip are the cutest little BCs, both loving, happy puppies, and we are so glad that they are with us now.  They are both really wonderful little guys. They will both probably be on the small side about 35 pounds when they are fully grown and both are so sweet!   But Mick will be the more active of the two.  Zip is a little less intense.

Mick and Zip are completely healthy, and have had all their immunizations and been neutered.  They also have been microchipped, had a fecal and wormed.

Mick and Zip are being fostered near St. Louis.  For more information on either Zip or Mick, please email Chris at comebyebcrescue@hotmail.com or go to our website www.comebyebcrescue.rescuegroups.org for online application to adopt either Mick or Zip.

Mick is a 7 month old male purebred tri-color Border Collie who is a real love bug!   He enjoys being petted and cuddled. He also exhibits herding behaviors, with the BC ‘crouch’ and giving eye when the ball is thrown for him! Mick is a soft dog, and would not do well with harsh corrections. He is somewhat shy in new situations but warms up quickly to gentle people. Once he gets to know you, Mick will let you pick him up and hold him on your lap for a belly rub. He gets very relaxed and very much enjoys the attention.

Mick loves to play ball, and wrestle with his brother Zip. He will bring the ball back to you (or close) and will sit or lie down until you throw it for him. He is interested in other dogs and wants to play and can be boisterous, as all puppies can be when meeting new doggie friends. He does not like to walk on a leash much as yet, unless he is with his brother, and will sometimes balk or bite the leash…just needs some more training.

Mick is crate trained.  Just toss in a few bits of kibble and he is happy to go rest in his crate. During the day he is never crated more than 3-4 hours at a time, and also sleeps through the night for 8 hours in his crate as well.  He knows some commands: ”Sit”, “Go Potty”, and “Wait” which keeps him from rushing the door. We are working on “Go crate” and  “Bring”(the ball). Mick  has the typical BC puppy energy, but also has an “off switch” and will lie down at your feet quietly after a play session.

Mick is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots.  He has had a fecal and been wormed.  He and Zip had parvovirus but are completely recovered and not contagious to other beings.

Mick is being fostered near St. Louis.  Please email Chris at
