Description:
Adoption Pending!!!!
11/05/2009
Ike is a gorgeous 5 yo red and white rough coat border collie. He came to Come Bye from a farm where he was purchased to be a working dog but had no interest in the livestock. He was originally heartworm positive, has gone through treatment and will be retested on Nov. 13, if he is negative then he will be placed on heartworm preventative and will be available for adoption. Heartworms, once treated, should pose no long term health risks to him.
Ike is a medium active dog who loves to play and run. His favorite toy is a soccer ball (or any other larger type ball), he will chase it all over the house and yard. He loves human attention so would be great in a one dog home where he doesn’t share the petting, but he also loves other dogs so would also do great in a multiple dog home. When he came into rescue he had never lived in a house. He is now completely house trained and has excellent house manners. I have been leaving him out of his crate for short periods when I am not home and he has done fine. He is crate trained but in the morning when I wake up, or when I arrive home from work he can be somewhat vocal about letting me know it is time for him to come out of his crate.
Because the indoors is still relatively new to Ike there are some noises he can be sensitive to. We have been working on desensitizing him to noises but this is still a work in progress as he hears new noises. He would probably do best in a quieter home. He has not yet realized that at 45 pounds he cannot be a lap dog. On the times I do let him crawl into my lap he becomes a big rag doll and just soaks up the attention.
Ike has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, and has been microchipped. He has no known health issues. He is being fostered near Ann Arbor, MI. See that giant smile on my face? That is because I was brought into rescue where I will get treatment for my heartworms, and they tell me I will feel lots better. I am new to rescue and my foster mom is just learning about me, so check back for updates.
So far I’ve let them know that I get along with other dogs, have been raised around kids, and have been a farm dog all my life. They tell me that’s different from a house dog, which means I will have to learn house manners while I’m being treated for heartworm. That’s a lot for one dog, don’cha think? J .
From Foster Mom:
Ike is 5 years old, not yet neutered but will be before he is adopted out. He is heartworm positive which means that he will not be available for at least 2 months. But my initial impressions say he will be worth the wait! With such a gorgeous face this purebred will have many applicants waiting in line for his treatment to be completed, so don’t wait on submitting your application.
He is currently being fostered near Ann Arbor, MI. For more information contact Kathy at kathyjimmyelyse@hotmail.com or go to our website at www.comebyebcrescue.rescuegroups.org to fill out an online application.
