Description:

Harvey (Protege #0121) is a 1-1.5 year old Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is medium-sized at about 40 lbs, is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He is heartworm negative, but was positive for Lyme's disease and although asymptomatic is receiving a course of Doxycycline to treat the Lyme disease. Harvey started out in life as a farm dog, and spent most of his days outside, where he was "too active," according to his previous family.

Harvey has lived in his current foster home for two weeks and "too active" does not seem to be a major issue. Harvey is an incredible house guest because he is quiet, well-mannered and respectful. Harvey doesn't jump on guests or furniture. He is also housebroken and crate trained.

At first Harvey was whiny in his crate, but now he is very quiet and always goes to his crate on command. Harvey loves playing with toys and other dogs. He likes tugging, chasing balls and hasn't met another dog he doesn't get along with.

Though Harvey has exhibited some submissive peeing (more like "OH MY GOD I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE HOME ... I JUST CAN'T CONTAIN MYSELF!") he seems to be getting better as he adjusts. When this does happen it is a VERY small amount.

Harvey rides well in the car and enjoys car rides. He also is a good eater and is treat-motivated. He takes treats gently and is never too pushy when it comes to food. Harvey will let his foster parent and guests in his home take treats, toys and food away from him without question.

He is active, but not TOO active. He likes to play and go for walks, but doesn't spend hours pacing around the house when there's nothing to do. Harvey is very fast and learns quickly. He would make a fun sports dog for someone interested in agility, flyball or frisbee. He would also make a good pet in a semi-active home, perhaps with other dogs. Here is a little video of Harvey playing with his foster sister: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7uDns3yDvY. Look for the heart on Harvey's left side toward the end of the video -- you can also see most of it in his photo. Harvey already knows sit, down and shake and hopes to find a new forever home where he will be loved!
