Adoption

Come Bye BC Rescue takes great pride in placing our animals in a home that is best suited to each dog's individual personality, temperament, and activity level. In our adoption process you must fill out an application. We also will do a phone interview with you, a veterinarian reference check, personal reference checks, a home visit, and whatever else is needed to verify all the information on the application. We at Come Bye BC Rescue want to be sure that you and your new pet are a perfect match, so that each placement is a permanent one. The adoption process is a way of getting to know you, your family, and your lifestyle. The Rescue's first responsibility is to our rescued pets.

To potentially adopt one of our pets, you must fill out an application and return it by email, fax, or mail. Come Bye BC Rescue will review each application in the order it is received. The board will vote on approval or denial of an application. If the board approves your application, you will be contacted by phone or email. It usually takes about 5-10 days to process an application as each member of our board of directors works full time in addition to volunteering with Come Bye BC Rescue. If you are approved by the board for adoption, you will be invited to meet the pet you are interested in adopting at the foster's home. This visit must be done within one week after the date you are approved for adoption. If the visit is not made, we will assume you are no longer interested in adopting the pet. We cannot "hold" the animal for a prospective adopter any longer, as it is not fair to the pet. Our adoption agreement must be completed during or before your visit. Each pet has a minimum adoption fee to cover the medical care they have received.

 Application Fee and Adoption Fee

There is a non-refundable $10 application fee. The application fee will be applied toward your adoption fee if you adopt a dog from us.  Due to increases in veterinarian costs for medical procedures our adoption fees have increased. All adoption fees are $250 for adult dogs and $275 for puppies.

Before submitting your application, please click on the link below to pay the $10 non-refundable application fee.

Come Bye BC Rescue's adoption fee includes the following veterinary services:

(click to learn more)

1. General examination.
2. Heartworm testing.
3. Spay or neuter surgery.
4. Distemper complex immunization.
5. Rabies shot.
6. Microchip.
7. Worming and/or fecal exam.
8. Flea/tick treatment.
9. Other treatment.

1. General examination. Each puppy or adult dog is examined by a vet to check for any irregularities.

2. Heartworm testing. If a dog tests positive, the dog is treated unless the dog is too ill to lead a good quality of life after treatment. If the dog tests negative, the dog is started on heartworm preventative medicine immediately and receives it each month. Pups are started on heartworm preventative medicine immediately, and receive it each month.

3. Spay or neuter surgery. Each adult dog is spayed or neutered after it tests negative for heartworm. If the dog tests positive and is treated, the spaying or neutering takes place after the dog has recovered from the heartworm treatment. Please note: adult dogs must be re-tested six months after the initial heartworm test, because heartworm tests will not catch heartworms in their "incubation period". Occasionally, puppies are too young for the surgery when they are adopted into their forever home. Come Bye BC Rescue will make sure the pup is spayed or neutered by the adopter at the appropriate age, and an additional deposit is required (more details available upon request).

4. Distemper complex immunization. Each adult dog is current on his/her distemper complex (called DHLPP, DAPP and the like). Each puppy is current on his/her immunizations, but additional puppy shots may be needed after adoption. Typically Come Bye BC Rescue will pay for most or all of the remaining immunizations.

5. Rabies shot. Each adult dog is current on his/her rabies vaccine. Puppies are vaccinated when they are between four and six months old (depending on the vet). If the puppy is not yet vaccinated for rabies when she/he is adopted into their forever home, Come Bye BC Rescue will ensure the pup is vaccinated by the adopter, and pay for the immunization.

6. Microchip. Each adult dog is microchipped before she/he goes to its forever home, usually at the time of spaying/neutering. Typically Come Bye BC Rescue uses Avid microchips. Come Bye BC Rescue will remain the owner of the microchip forever. Puppies are normally chipped before they go to their forever home. If not, Come Bye BC Rescue will supply a microchip to the adopter and will ensure the pup is microchipped within 60 days of adoption.

7. Worming and/or fecal exam. Adults dogs and puppies are wormed and/or receive a fecal exam. If there are any worms found in the sample or by physical examination, they are treated for worms.

8. Flea/tick treatment. Each pup or dog is given flea and/or tick treatment monthly as dictated by the time of year.

9. Other treatment. We typically run bloodwork and dental exams on dogs over the age of 5 years. If we notice anything that does not seem normal, (awkward gait, sneezing and/or coughing, cloudy eyes, etc.) a veterinarian or veterinarian specialist will be consulted. Appropriate treatment will be administered before the dog goes to her/his forever home.
